Reading is something people fall in and out of for most of their lives. And that is certainly the case for me. As someone who is not a Book Influencer I unfortunately do not have a plethora of books to compare and contrast my reading experience to. Therefore my ratings will most likely be immature compared to others, but that being said I can have any opinion. So take these opinions as if they are from your average Josephina Schmo (cause they are).

FAMILY DRAMA
Family Drama is my first dive into character-driven stories in quite some time.
For the first 50-70 pages I was completely lost and had no real idea what was going on. This could be a combination of my TikTok brain, and the under-utilization of my noggin on a daily basis, but throughout those first pages it felt oddly relaxing to read.
It felt sort of like my brain was getting a massage. It was an incredibly odd experience altogether and then come page 71 (or so I am being exact to make a point) it all clicked. I could see the characters, I understood what was going on, and I actually craved the world that had been built.
I was excited to see where it would go next and what was to come. Now the end did lull slightly for me which seems to happen at the end of almost every book which I think is a combination if I WANT TO READ FASTER TO KNOW HOW THIS ENDS, and the subtle shift in my brain that this is in fact a fictional world and once this book closes its over, which pulls me out of the story unfortunately.
Anyways it was written so well, again in my extremely humble opinion, left moments of reflections, time to relate to the characters, and time to be with the characters.
I don’t know if everyone will like this book as much as I did, but I would say if you try it give it a minute (I know what an annoying thing to say) but seriously not everything has to pull you in in such a captivating way, sometimes you can let the story build and the pay off will be a story that keeps you in it far longer than the hook at the beginning.
This was Rebecca Fallons debut novel and sincerely hope she is writing another I can’t wait to see what comes from your mind next!
